‘I GRAPAT’ IN VAL SAN GIACOMO (VALLESPLUGA) – ECOMUSEUM VALLESPLUGA

We have worked on ethnographic research project on the trades of ‘grappa makers’ in Vallespluga (Chiavenna, Sondrio, Lombardy) – the name of the grappa makers in Val San Giacomo (Vallespluga) – through editorial and audiovisual material. In partnership with Ecomuseum Vallespluga, Museum of Via Spluga and Val San Giacomo, Consortium of Frazioni di Acero ONLUS, Region of Lombardy – AESS Archive of Ethnography and Social History.

‘The grappa makers’ borns in Vallespluga and this kind of trade rooted in Alpine culture when in winter people was put aside the traditional work in the fields and in the mountains, and grappa was distilled inside the households. An important food tradition in the Alps, then exported to other regions of Italy, which is an expression both of the intangible cultural heritage of a community and of those products that are more typical and characterizing the Italian territory.
