Mneme: Cultural memory in the cemetery landascape: Travel Notes for new scenarios to explore

Some points for reflection on the cemeteries such as archives, places of memory and witnesses of autobiographical and collective stories from which to draw for the knowledge of our societies.

Are the cemeteries as the places of memory still significant places for the communities? Are they still functional spaces to symbolize our personal and collective stories?

Our thoughts go to all the victims of covid-19 and to their relatives who, due to the bans imposed, have been deprived of the rituality “to say goodbye” to their relatives. We are close to their drama that it’s similar to the Antigone’s drama: the conflict between the “law of the State” and the “law [unwritten] of heaven”. A family and social drama that is also inscribed in the physical and symbolic space of the cemetery as place of the autobiographical and collective memory.
